After a long 15 months away from the game, Tiger Woods is finally back out on the course in a pro event. It was really great to see and it brought some buzz back to the game of golf.
Tiger started out well and even shot a 65 on Friday. He repeatedly said he was happy with his game coming back. However, he also admitted to some important mistakes. His comments seem to say that these mistakes were largely mental and/or decision making. Those are great mistakes to have because it means he is physically back. He feels that his body is up to the task!
Tiger Finishes 15th
He finished 15th in a 17 player field, which doesn’t sound very good. However, he was playing much stronger through the first three rounds. He went into the last round in 9th place, but shot a 76 to drop to 15th.
It seems like that has been his problem over the past few years. He has had his share of strong starts, but has trouble finishing. Throughout his career he has had difficulty coming from behind. This could be an extension of that issue. Only now it is harder for him to jump out to the lead like he used to.
In any case, with his strength returning, maybe he can content for his 15th major this year. We all know that time wins all battles and Tiger’s battle with time is ongoing. Jack was able to win a major in his 40s, so maybe Tiger will be able to do the same. That remains to be seen.
